San Antonio Japanese Tea Garden Guide

The San Antonio Japanese Tea Garden is a unique park that has been a part of the fabric of the city for over 90 years.  Once an operating rock quarry today, it is one of the most loved, educational and cultural resources in the city. Located on N. St. Mary’s St. at Brackenridge Park, the original rock quarry was shaped into a complex that included walkways, stone arch bridges, an island and a Japanese pavilion. The San Antonio Parks Foundation restored the garden to feature a lush year-round garden and a floral display with shaded walkways, stone bridges, a 60-foot waterfall and ponds filled with Koi. If you’re a fan of touring local gardens, the Japanese Tea Garden is a short 10-minute drive to the San Antonio Botanical Garden.

The garden is also home to the Jingu House, the Japanese Tea Garden restaurant. The restaurant is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the kitchen serving from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. You can sample delicious bento boxes, sushi, salads, wraps, salads and of course tea.

The Japanese Tea Garden hours are from sunrise to sunset and the park is open 7 days a week, 365 days a year to enjoy year-round. Admission is free to the garden.

The Japanese Tea Garden is the perfect place to host special events with a beautiful Pavilion and Japanese Tea Garden restaurant and patio, the Jingu House. The Pavilion is located near the entrance to the Japanese Tea Garden and immediately adjacent to the Jingu House and features a large, open area with gorgeous stone columns and a stunning view of the Tea Garden’s lily ponds and waterfall. It’s the perfect spot for weddings and special romantic events. The Jingu House is also available daily after 4 p.m. for receptions, showers, parties, and other events and features two rooms indoors and a large patio area.  The Waterfall, located at the lower level of the Japanese Tea Garden, offers an intimate area for special events that last a maximum of one hour and up to 10 guests.
