How New Homes in San Antonio Compare to Other Texas Cities

Real estate markets all across Texas are among the hottest in the country, but how do the new homes for sale in San Antonio measure up to other cities in the Lone Star State? Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio are all great places to live. Let’s take a look at how the current markets compare.

 

Better Value in San Antonio

Median home price helps to measure affordability as well as value in a real estate market. Realtor.org tracks median prices in major metros every quarter. At the end of Q2 2015 they found that the median prices for single-family homes in Texas were:

 

Austin – $271,600

Dallas – $215,200

Houston – $221,100

San Antonio – $199,400

 

What this means is that in San Antonio you’ll get more for you money.

 

Appreciation All Around

As of July 2015 all four Texas metros experienced significant appreciation. Median prices for existing single-family homes increased year-over-year by:

 

Austin – 8%

Dallas – 9%

Houston – 8.6%

San Antonio – 6.2%

 

Luxury Home Sales Are Increasing the Fastest in San Antonio

Luxury San Antonio home builders have been busy. In 2014 all of the Texas metros saw an increase in sales for homes priced at $1 million or more. However, San Antonio saw the biggest increase at 26%. The time to sell a luxury home also decreased by three months. In Austin luxury home sales increased by 9%, in Houston it increased by 13% and in Dallas they rose by 15%.
